Offsite fire alarm device addressing, labeling & staging

This is not an added cost.It is your labor, moved offsite.

Your devices arrive at our shop, get addressed to your approved drawings, labeled, staged by area and sent back ready to mount. The hours come out of your rough-in, not out of your margin.

Electrical contractors & fire alarm dealers North Dakota & South Dakota 38 years in commercial fire alarm

One specialized day from JFAST could save two to three of yours.

Every device JFAST addresses, labels and stages is a device your electrician does not unpack, look up on the drawings, set and label. Our fee substitutes for field hours already carried in your bid. It does not add a line to your labor.

Who this is for

Crews that self-perform fire alarm

JFAST fits electrical contractors who self-perform fire alarm rough-in and device installation. Those are the crews carrying the addressing hours today.

If you sub your entire fire alarm scope to a dealer on a turnkey basis, the labor we replace sits in the dealer's bid rather than yours, and there is nothing for us to take off your number. Tell us and we will approach your fire alarm subcontractor directly instead. We work for dealers on the same terms.

What stays with your electrician either way: taking each addressed, labeled device to its drawing location, terminating and mounting it.

What we do not do: design-build fire alarm project support, and anything on the sales or installation side.

Run your own numbers

What does addressing cost you today?

Most contractors have never measured it, because the hours are buried in rough-in labor. We would rather you check this than take our word for it.

Put your own figures in. Nothing is sent anywhere — the arithmetic runs in your browser.

Termination and mounting are not in these numbers. They stay with your electrician whether or not you use us.

A
B
D $
C Field hours (A × B ÷ 60) 200
E What this work costs you today $17,000

Figures shown are an example. Change them to yours — then ask us what the same scope costs through JFAST.

Three things line E does not capture

The part that never makes the estimate

Rework

A wrongly addressed and/or terminated device gets found during commissioning, with your electrician and the dealer's technician both standing there. Those hours are typically not in your estimate.

Schedule

Our work happens offsite, weeks or months early, in parallel with your rough-in. Yours sits on the critical path — so when a schedule does tighten, that is where the pressure lands, with the AHJ, GC and owner waiting on final completion.

Cost certainty

A fixed per-device figure is a known substitute-labor number at bid time. What this work costs you in the field today is not, which is exactly why it is easy to assume it is free.

Scope

What we do with your devices

Item #1

Offsite device addressing & logistics

Ship direct to our shop.

Instruct your dealer or manufacturer to send the addressable devices straight to JFAST. The shipment never has to be received, stored and sorted at your shop — it goes out to the jobsite already addressed, labeled and ready to mount.

From there we:

  • Unpack and inventory each device against your approved installation drawings.
  • Program each device's unique binary address to match the address on the approved drawings you provide to us.
  • Label each device and its packaging with the correct address.
  • If desired, attach a fire-rated whip cable to each device (2 #18 red/black standard; spec varies by device type). Your installer matches red to red, black to black.
  • If requested for larger projects, stage the finished devices by area.
  • Once processing is complete, schedule pickup on your shipping account to the location of your choice.

Ship-to-shop is our standard arrangement on every project. Turnaround is set by your project schedule.

Item #2

Travel to a jobsite

Equipment pickup or delivery in North Dakota and South Dakota, quoted separately from the per-device work. Basic fire alarm install consultation available on request.

Travel applies only when we collect or deliver equipment, and is not available outside ND and SD.

Item #3

Staged storage

Contractors who take delivery in stages can leave finished product with us. Storage applies only after processing is complete and devices are staged awaiting your delivery request. The first 30 days after completion are free.

Devices staged at our shop remain your property. In most cases a contractor's builder's risk or installation floater policy already extends to material stored offsite. Please confirm with your carrier — if your policy does not, notify us in writing before product ships so other arrangements can be made.

Tier 2

Prebid takeoff & specification review

A device count takeoff in 48 hours or less, with specification-review comments, based on the drawings and specs you provide. Priced by device count. Reach out for details.

Who we are

Thirty-eight years of this

JFAST is a fire alarm support team built with the electrical contractor in mind. It was founded by Scott Jorgenson after 38 years in the commercial fire alarm market:

  • 26 years with Simplex as a technician and sales rep.
  • 9 years as owner of Simtech Inc., selling and servicing Autocall equipment, plus management roles.
  • 3 years in sales following the company's acquisition by NewVision Security.

Scott is no longer interested in the sales and dealer side of the industry, but still enjoys the preliminary stages of a project — the part that decides whether the final product lands on time.

Ask for the rate sheet

Rates are on one page, per device, with a project minimum — sent on request so you can figure them into your bid, or add them on if you are already awarded. Tell us the project and the device count and we will send it the same day.
